ENVIRONMENT

Context

Speaking the same language does not always mean understanding each other

In an intercultural environment, the same professional behavior can be interpreted very differently.

Giving direct feedback, contradicting one's manager, taking initiative, strictly adhering to a process, expressing disagreement, or making a collective decision do not have the same meaning across individuals and cultures.

These differences can have very concrete consequences:

  • Misunderstandings and tensions

  • Difficulties giving or receiving feedback

  • Communication issues

  • Loss of trust or engagement

  • Difficulties working together

  • Challenges to a manager’s leadership and authority
